SOLUDO TERMINATES OKPOKO ROAD PROJECT

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has announced the immediate termination of contract of the firm handling the 14.053km road in Okpoko, Ogbaru Local Government Area for alleged failure to deliver the project.

The project, which consists nine roads and handled by NBHH Engineering Company, was terminated as a result of negligence, incompetence and delay in delivering the job.

Governor Soludo made the announcement when he paid an unscheduled visit to Okpoko to inspect the level of work.

Governor Soludo who expressed dissatisfaction with the level of work on some of the roads, noted that the project was supposed to have ended on June 10 2023 but was still uncompleted.

The Governor pointed out that his administration would seek a new contractor to ensure swift completion of the project.

The Governor further condemned the practice of street trading, noting that the need for organized markets and announced the construction of a modern fruit and vegetable market to relocate street vendors and improve overall aesthetics of the area.

While highlighting the poor sanitary conditions in the area, the the Governor ordered immediate cleanup efforts, assuring that the SASA Anti-Tout Task Force would address harassment and illegal levies imposed on traders.

He also pledged continued infrastructure development in Okpoko, including street lights, pipe-borne water, and a standard general hospital.

The Governor further urged residents of the area to play their part in maintaining a clean and orderly environment.

Earlier, the Transition Committee Chairman for Ogbaru, Local Government Area, Mr. Paschal Aniegbuna, applauded Governor Soludo for his commitment to transforming Okpoko community into a livable homeland.

Radio Nigeria gathered that the nine road project in Okpoko were the Obodoukwu- Owerri Road, Ogbuagu-Ik Onuora-Anumudu-Mgbuka Amazu -Owerri Road;
Edeh Road-School Road-Awalite-Ojoto -Owerri Road; School Road-Umuobom Street- Ojoto Street Junction
-Umuobom ST (Ojoto St Junction)- Adazi Ani ST – Owerri Road among others
