SECURITY AGENCIES IN ENUGU AND ABIA STATES ASSURE RESIDENTS OF IMPROVED PROTECTION OF LIVES AND PROPERTY

The Police command in Abia State has reassured residents of the state and people coming into the state for Christmas and New Year celebrations of adequate security.

The Commissioner of Police in the state Mr. Chris Ezike gave the assurance while addressing officers of the command in Umuahia.

He pointed out that the command had taken note of flash point sin the state where hoodlums operated and would position patrol teams in such places.

Mr. Ezike noted that as part of efforts to maintain free flow of traffic and safety on the roads during the Yuletide, the command had extended its operation hours to ten o’clock in the night every day.

On the use of fireworks and other explosives during the season, Mr. Ezike stated that the ban on use of such devices was still in force and warned that the Police would arrest any person caught selling or using fireworks.

While wishing the people a merry Christmas and prosperous New Year, Mr. Ezike warned criminals to stay away from the state noting that his men were ever ready to deal decisively with anyone caught in criminal acts.

Similarly, security agencies in Enugu State have reiterated their resolve to sustain the existing security in the area during and after this Christmas and New Year seasons.

They made this known in an interview with Radio Nigeria.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. EbereAmarizu, explained that sensitization of the public, partnership with relevant stake holders and other security agencies had been on going to make this year’s celebration crime free.

Mr. Amarizu, who urged members of the public to go about their daily activities without fear of molestation, advised that any suspicious move should be reported to the Police.

Contributing to the issue, the Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Enugu Command, Mr. Manuel Iwuchukwu, said necessary machineries were employed to tackle the activities of criminals, adding that hide out for criminals were combed every day to rid the state of hoodlums.

The Comptroller Nigeria Immigration Service, Enugu State Command, Mr. Samuel Chinda, noted that Immigration Officers had been positioned at strategic locations across the state to monitor and profile non-Nigerians, especially migrants from ECOWAS nations that might be migrating into the state.

Also, the Deputy Comptroller Administration, Nigeria Custom Service, Enugu, Ebonyi, and Anambra State Commands, Mr. Godwin GabrelDanaan noted that border areas were presently secured because officers of the Nigerian Custom Service were currently enforcing the Federal Government Fiscal Policy on Foreign Rice Importation.

Mr. GabrelDanaan stated that illegal or porous routes had been sealed off and products that could endanger lives and threaten peace were being confiscated.
