SALLAH: MUSLIMS LAMENT OVERBEARING COST OF RAM

UCHE NDEKE

High cost of ram in Anambra State may deprive many Muslim faithful from taking part fully in the Obligation of Eid-el-Fitri celebration.

The Chairman of cattle market in Amansea, Awka North Local government area, Alhaji Bello Maigari stated this while speaking with Radio Nigeria Correspondent Uche Ndeke in Awka .

According to Alhaji Magari, the prices of
ram have gone so high as the size that was sold at #40,000 in the previous year now sells between #90,000 and #100,000 while the ones previously sold at about #100,000 is now over #150,000.

He expressed regret that due to the present economic situation in the country, some faithful might not be able to afford the slautering of ram as required by the holy book.

Alhaji Maigari, however, enjoined those who may not afford the cost not to worry rather start saving money to be able to meet up in the coming year.

The Chief Imam of the cattle market, Issa Abubakar, who lamented low patronage, blamed the high cost on numerous extortions and check points on the road from the Northern part down to Anambra State.

According to the Chief Imam, cattle traders are forced to part with not less than #500,000 on sorting and paying both security agents and revenue touts who claim to be working for government at various levels.

They therefore appealed to the present administration of President Bola Tinubu to address the economic challenges occasioned by the total removal of petrol subsidy even as they expressed the hope that the policies taken so far would bear fruits soonest.
