RESIDENTS OF ENUGU METROPOLIS CALL FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF MORE FIRE SUBSTATIONS

Property worth millions of Naira has been razed by fire at number one Amagu Street Achara Layout Enugu, which houses the popular Mama Ekpere joint.

The building also housed many businesses including a vulcanizing centre, a Tummy-Tummy depot, and poultry.

Eye witnesses allege that the fire started from the shop of one of the tenants who smoked fish in the premises.

A resident in the neighbourhood, and Manager News, Radio Nigeria Enugu, Comrade EmekaAnyalebechi, appealed to the state government to establish fire sub stations in different parts of Enugu metropolis.

Some of the tenants whose property was affected includeMr. Kingsley Chime and Mrs IfeomaNwadiuto, appealed to government and public spirited individuals to come to their aid.

Meanwhile, a state fire officer,Mr. Titus Ezenwude in an interview at the scene, frowned on the attitude of some road users who resist giving way to fire service trucks during emergencies.

Correspondent Emma Nweke reports that efforts of some members of the public and the fire service stopped the fire from affecting a nearby transformer and nearby buildings.
