PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN RURAL COMMUNITIES TO BE EXPOSED TO COMPUTER LITERACY

The Enugu State Government says all public schools in rural areas will be exposed to computer literacy to enhance standard of education in the State. The Chairman of the State Post Primary School Management Board, PPSMB, Mr. Nestor Ezeme, stated this while addressing members of the State House of Assembly Committee on Education, Science and Technology who were on oversight visit to the board.

The Committee on arrival commended PPSMB for improved infrastructure in the board and some schools in the State. The Chairman, Mr Nestor Ezeme announced that over two hundred computer sets and their accessories had been distributed to some schools in the area. He said the provision of the computer sets, with internet service would help to bridge the gap between public and private schools in terms of Information and Communication Technology, ICT.

Mr Ezeme announced that the board had accessed its budgetary provision up to ninety two percent.

He noted that the board had made serious progress in addressing examination malpractices and cult related issues in public schools, while appealing to communities to partner the board to safeguard school land and other properties. Other members of the committee including Chief Anthony Ogidi, Chief Mathias Ekweremadu also urged the board to device mechanism of addressing land encroachment in some areas.

The member representing Nsukka West State Constituency, Dame Nkechi Omeje Ogbu, raised an alarm over alleged frequent rape of secondary school students in some parts of Nsukka Local Government Area by unknown persons and called on security agencies to live above board.

The leader of the delegation and member representing Igbo-Eze South State Constituency, Chief Erochukwu ugwueze commended the board for living up to expectation. Chief Ugwueze appealed for government at all levels to invest more on the welfare of teachers as a means of fighting poverty and improve human capital development.

The Chairman of the Committee also visited the State Science, Technical and Vocational School Management Board where the committee expressed mixed feelings over inability of the board to engage instructor that would boost technical education irrespective of widows created to that effect.

The committee advised them to improve on its obligations to the State.
