PROTESTERS DEMAND RETURN OF IMO ELECTION PETITIONS TRIBUNAL TO THE STATE
REPORTER: CHUKWUKA AGUKWE
A group of protesters has appealed to the Federal Government to bring back the Imo State Election Petitions Tribunal that was relocated to Nasarawa State for sitting.
The leader of the group, Mr. Chidi Agocha, urged the President Court of Appeal to save Imo people from unwanted disaster going to Nasarawa State to monitor the court progress.
Mr. Agocha argued that “Imo State is safe” and there was no need moving the court to Nasarawa State, alleging that it was act of blackmail to term the state unsafe.
A resident of Owerri, Mr. Orient Nwadike, alledged that the relocation to Nasarawa State was to deny Imo citizens the right of witnesses at the court proceedings and cut short the reports of heneious activities during the election periods.
Mr. Nwadike decried that the cost of transportation to Abuja was enough reason to bring the court back to Owerri for the benefit of all.
The protesters carried placards with inscriptions “Return Tribunal to Imo State,” “Absolute Peace is in Imo: Return Tribunal,” and “Imo Safer than where the Tribunal is located.”
