ABIA STATE GOVT INAUGURATE MARKET COMMITTEES, TARGETS INCREASED REVENUE

Abia State Government has inaugurated the management committees of the various markets in the state.

At the ceremony in Umuahia, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Trade and Commerce, Dr. Chimezie Ukaegbu, said the appointment of the committee members for the 19 of the 21 markets in the state, was to ensure effective management of the markets.

He reminded the committees that their appointment was to serve the government and not to intimidate the people and as well ensure that appropriate revenue was generated for the development of the area.

Dr. Ukaegbu urged the members of the management committees to be accountable in the discharge of their duties to assist the government to achieve its goals and objectives.

Also, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Internally Generated Revenue, Mr. Chimereze Ukeigbo, explained that the essence of the committees was to bring the needed reforms into the markets.

He pointed out that the new system developed by the state government to collect revenue would be launched soon in the state.

In a reaction, the management committee Chairman of Ariaria International Market, Aba, Mr. Chikadibia Ozoekwe, commended the governor for giving them the opportunity to serve.

The market leeader promised that the various communities would work according to the terms and conditions to achieve the objectives of the government.
