POORLY DONE CAESAREAN SECTION NOW CAUSES OBSTETRICS FISTULA IN SOUTHERN NIGERIA — PROF OBUNA

The National Obstetric Fistula Centre Abakaliki, Ebonyi State has raised alarm that poorly done caesarean section is increasingly becoming commonest cause of obstetric fistula in Southern part of Nigeria.

Briefing journalists in Abakaliki, the Managing Director of the Centre, Professor Johnson Obuna, blamed the development on some public tertiary health Institutions as well as quacks and called for constant training of doctors to update their knowledge on obstetrics.

Professor Obuna noted that the Centre in collaboration with the Wife of Ebonyi State Governor, Mrs. Rachael Umahi, and the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs had embarked on pool efforts fistula repair programme to repair at least one hundred patients in a week.

He said National Obstetrics and Fistula Centre Abakaliki had repaired about four thousand patients and operated three thousand uterine prolapse cases since its inception in 2008.
