POLICE TO CLAMP DOWN ON ILLEGAL TAX COLLECTORS IN ANAMBRA STATE.

The Police command in Anambra State has warned all those parading themselves as revenue collectors for the State Government to henceforth desist from such illegal act or face the full wrath of the law.

The Commissioner of Police in the State, Mr. Garba Umar gave the warning at the Command Headquarters in Awka, while parading some arrested cult members and armed robbers.

According to him, any miscreant or group found  extorting toll and levies from wheel barrows, importers, markets and  containers, in any part of the State claiming to be working for the Government would be apprehended and dealt with.

Mr. Umar noted that all Divisional Police Officers and other striking units had been directed to arrest all those found violating the State ban on illegal collection of levies.

The Command also paraded eighteen illegal toll collectors who would be charged to court as soon as investigations were concluded.

He stated that armed robbery, child stealing, murder and other nefarious activities had reduced drastically due to the proactive measures put in place by the Command.

Mr. Umar while commending the AnambraState Government for its assistance in terms of logistics and motivation stated that  about twenty four locally made guns, forty two cartridges, four life ammunition, four cutlasses, axes and swords were recovered as exhibits from hoodlums .

The Police Commissioner used the medium to call on law abiding citizens to refrain from acts capable of causing a breach of peace and report any suspicious movement of persons within their neighborhood to security agents.
