POLITICAL PARTIES ADVISED TO ACCOMMODATE MORE WOMEN IN ELECTIVE POSITIONS

Women have been advised to support any political party that gives them opportunity to contest elective positions.

ical Watch” a Radio Nigeria Enugu live interactive programme on political issues gave the advice while discussing the topic “The Place of Women in Politics”.

One of them, a Human Rights Activist, Professor Joy Ezeilo, accused the men folk of not giving women opportunity to occupy elective positions despite their proven qualities.

Professor Ezeilo also urged women to utilize their numerical strength to bring the desired change in the

country.

The PDP Women Leader in Enugu West Senatorial Zone, Lolo Victoria Nwachukwu identified cultural beliefs, lack of trust and intimidation by men as some of the maj

or challenges affecting women participation in politics.

Lolo Nwachukwu commended Governor IfeanyiUgwuanyi for always protecting the interest of women in the State.

Another guest and Chairperson, Save Nigeria Congress Party, Princess Stella Chukwu called for aggressive sensitization of women to participate actively in politics, stressing the need for women to support each other.

Some callers in the programme while commending the role of women in building a virile society said nobody should be given special consideration to contest an election because of gender differences.
