POLICE RECOVER ILLEGAL 150 AMMUNITION, 200 CARTRIDGES AND 140 ARMS/LIGHT WEAPONS IN ENUGU

Enugu State Police Command says over 140 arms and light weapons have been recovered in the on-going operation to mop – up illegal firearms in the country.

Briefing journalists shortly after displaying the weapons at the Police Headquarters, Enugu, the Commissioner of Police in the State, Mr. Mohammed Dan-Mallam, said the firearms were recovered through operation stop and search, and not voluntarily surrendered.

Mr. Dan-Mallam explained that more than 150 ammunitions of different types and over 200 cartridges were also recovered within the period under review.

The Commissioner of Police however, warned those in possession of illegal firearm to surrender them to the Police or face the full weight of the law.

Mr. Dan-Mallam reiterated the commitment of men and officers of Enugu Police Command to protect lives and property of the people and advised residents to avoid vices capable of causing breach of peace in the State.

The Police Commissioner also assured the people of the State of adequate security during the Easter celebration and always.
