The Anambra State Police Command has commended the contributions of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, (NAWOJ) in nation building.

The command says NAWOJ has been doing that through moulding public opinions, managing public perception and disseminating information.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aderemi Adeoye gave the commendation, when members of NAWOJ, South East zone paid him a courtesy visit to his office at the Command’s Headquarters in Awka,

The Police Commissioner, while charging the association to remain committed to its vision and mission, said the command would partner NAWOJ to drastically reduce gender based violence in the state.

Earlier, the leader of the group and Vice President NAWOJ South East, Comrade Stella Igboka, said NAWOJ is a gender based organization, committed to the development of women in all fields as well as preserving girls rights and protecting the weak and vulnerable in the society.

Comrade Igboka explained that the objectives of the association aligned with the crime fighting drives of the Nigeria Police Force, in the areas of protecting children and women’s rights.

She pointed out that the collaboration would not only aid crime fighting but also project activities and operations of the command to all the nooks and crannies of the state.

NAWOJ is an umbrella body for all practicing female journalists in Nigeria and an affiliate body of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ with the aim to advocate the development of women in all fields and to protect the rights of the girl child, the weak and vulnerable in the society.
