POLICE INVESTIGATE DEATH OF 22 YEAR OLD OVER COVID-19 CURFEW ENFORCEMENT IN ANAMBRA

Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr. John Abang, has ordered for investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of a twenty-two year old man in Enugwu Ukwu, Mr. Anthony Okafor.

Mr. Abang, who expressed sadness by the unfortunate incident, assured that justice would be done in the case and the outcome of police investigation made public in due course.

A statement by the Police Public Relations officer in the state, Mr. Haruna Muhammed, confirmed that the late Anthony Okafor was suddenly hit by a shuttle bus while trying to cross the highway during the rush hour of enforcement of COVID-19 curfew.

It states that the victim was rushed to Beke Memorial Hospital Nimo by a Police Patrol team where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty.

The statement noted that the driver was arrested and investigation ongoing.

According to the statement, following the incident, aggrieved youths in the area went on rampage and attempted to set ablaze Divisional Police headquarters Nimo but were dispersed through the joint efforts of the police and community stakeholders.

Meanwhile Radio Nigeria gathered that the corpse of the deceased had been deposited at Bekee Memorial Hospital for post mortem.
