COVID-19: NO PUBLIC CELEBRATION OF SALLAH IN ABIA — INFORMATION COMMISSIONER

The Abia State Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, has frowned on the attitude of some residents who do not adhere strictly to the order on restrictions to curtail the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking on Radio Nigeria Pacesetter FM Umuahia, Chief Kalu noted that some people did not wear the face masks well, leaving the mouth and nose uncovered while some failed to wear at all, an action he described as no compliance.

The Information Commissioner said Abia State had targeted a maximum of 80% compliance to ensure safety of its citizens.

He said seven cases of Coronavirus were confirmed in Abia State but one discharged, while six were still being treated.

According to Chief Kalu, one of the six cases is a woman of above 70years at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia while the other five are males being isolated at Amachara General Hospital, Umuahia.

Chief Kalu noted that the Inter Ministerial Committee on COVID-19 would soon release plans to ensure total compliance with the Coronavirus protocol.

He advised people to comply with the precautionary measures, including wearing face masks before leaving their homes, maintenance of social distancing and regular washing of hands to limit the spread of the pandemic.

The Information Commissioner pointed out that the COVID-19 committee after a discussion with the Muslim community in Abia State, they all agreed that every Muslim would celebrate their feast at home and no prayers at each Ground in Abia State, as part of measures to curtail the spread of the disease.
