REPORTER: KEVIN EKEDIEGWU

Police operatives in Anambra State have recovered six improvised explosive devices (IEDs) already primed for attack alongside two Walkie Talkie in an insurgents’ camp in the state.

They also recovered substantial food groceries supply.

The recovering followed the hunt for gunmen, who attacked two Police Stations at Awgbu in Orumba North local Government Area and Neni in Anaocha Local Government Area, in the last two weeks by the police operatives.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr.Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement, said operatives identified and destroyed camps used by the insurgents to launch attacks within the Command.

The statement explained that the operatives had previously destroyed two of such camps – one in Ogbunka, Orumba South Local Government Area and the other in Achalla, Awka North local Government Area.

The statement further said recently, the Joint Security Force raided the forests of Ogbunka in Orumba South Local Government Area and found scattered camps of the insurgents, who fled in the face of the onslaught.

It stated that all the insurgents’ camps were subsequently raided and destroyed to deny them bases.

The statement pointed out that the raid on the forests, in search of insurgents and their camps, was still ongoing with a view to eliminating the terrorists; rescuing abducted victims and recovering firearms and stolen vehicles in their possession.

Meanwhile, the statement said the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aderemi Adeoye sent warm greetings to the residents of the area and assured them that the Police Command under his watch would continue to serve the people selflessly despite the risks involved.
