NUJ ELECTS NEW CHAIRMAN IN EBONYI

The Nigeria Union of Journalists Ebonyi State Council has elected Daily Independent Correspondent in the state, Comrade Samson Nwafor, as Chairman.

Samson Nwafor, who is the immediate past chairman of the Correspondents Chapel of the union was elected unopposed and sworn in by the Vice President NUJ south South East Zone C, Comrade Emmanuel Ifesinachi at SamEgwu Press Centre, Enugu-Abakaliki expressway.

Comrade Ifesinachi commended the Union for its display of maturity in handling sensitive issues, as well as the peace and understanding existing among members of the Union.

He urged the new chairman to carry everybody along and ensure transparency in the discharge of his duties.

Comrade Ifesinachi also thanked Governor Francis Nwifuru for appointing some members of the Union into his cabinet.

In a speech the new Chairman, Comrade Samson Nwafor thanked members of the Union for the show of solidarity and promised to ensure that the Union made more remarkable achievements during his tenure.

Comrade Nwafor called on the members to join hands in ensuring the good of the state and the country.

The by-election for the NUJ Ebonyi State Council chairmanship position was necessitated due to the resignation of the former chairman of the Union, Comrade Tony Nwizi, who was appointed a Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on ICT.
