NPC BEGINS ENUMARATION AREA DEMARCATION IN ENUGU STATE

The Enumeration Area Demarcation of the National Population Commission (NPC) for Enugu State has been declared open at Ohomu Oba, Udenu Local Government Area.

The exercise which started from the residence of the Enugu State Governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi will continue to other areas April 13.

Enumeration Area Demarcation project is a way of dividing a local, State or country into smaller units for national development.

Declaring the exercise open on behalf of the National Chairman, National Population Commission, the Federal Commissioner representing Enugu State, Mr. Ejike Eze, explained that the programme was part of the pre-census exercise.

Also, the State Director NPC, Mrs. Ngozi Onyia observed that the exercise started with the Governor’s residence to give him the honour as the number one citizen of the State.

In an interview, the State Commissioner of the Enumeration Area Demarcation Project (EAD), Mr. Paul Abu, pointed out the characteristics of enumeration.

In a speech, the Chairman of Udenu Local Government Area, Mr. Frank Ugwu, who commended NPC for the exercise, promised to provide security as long as the exercise lasted.

The Traditional ruler of Ohomu Oba Community, Igwe Evaristus Onah, assured the enumerators of maximum co-operation with the people of his community.

The last national census in Nigeria was held in 2006.
