NLC IN ABIA STATE MARKS 40TH ANNIVERSARY: calls for payment of outstanding arrears to workers
The Chairman, Isialangwa Local Government Area of Abia state, Chief Jinger Onwusibe has advocated the autonomy of local government system in the country.
Chief Onwusibe made this known during the 40th anniversary celebration of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC in Umuahia the state capital.
This he said, would bring development to the masses at the grassroots.
While describing civil servants as the engine room of any government, Chief Onwusibe urged government at all levels to ensure that workers salaries and welfare were adequately taken care of.
Earlier, the Abia State NLC Chairman, comrade Uchenna Obigwe, appealed to the State Government to ensure that the outstanding arrears of salaries owed to its workers were cleared.
In a lecture on the occasion, a resource person and lecturer at the Micheal Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke highlighted the fundamental aims and
objectives of NLC to include protection, defense and promotion of
workers’ rights and welfare in the country.
The theme of the event was,” Nigeria Labour Congress Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow”.
