NIGERIA CUSTOMS DISTRIBUTES SEIZED ITEMS IN ENUGU

The National Committee on Distribution of Relief Materials has commenced distribution of seized items in Enugu State.
The Deputy Controller of Customs and Public Relations officer of the Nigerian Customs Service, Mr. Joseph Attah during the distribution of materials said that the process was in line with the directive of President, Muhamadu Buhari, to bring succor to those in orphanage homes and Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs.

According to him, the National Committee on Distribution of Relief Materials is headed by Mr Yakubu Salihu and was on February this year mandated to commence distribution of seized perishable goods in the Nigerian Customs ware houses to Orphanages and IDP’s across the country.

Mr. Attah said that the committee had covered some parts of South West, North West, South-South and presently in South East zone.

The Deputy Controller, Mr. Attah said that the distribution was on personal basis, which is directly to the affected group, without intermediaries, and that those to be attended to would present their original documents of registration as orphanage homes.

While the Internally Displaced Persons, IDP’s would be identified through a letter from their community heads.

He however, warned to deal decisively with any group with fake documents saying that adequate verification would be conducted before distribution of the items.

One of the recipients, a Reverend Sister from the Daughters of Divine Love Orphanage Home, Sister Eucheria Chukwueke who was given one hundred bags of rice, ten cartons of soaps, two bales of used cloths and two hundred pairs of shoes; commended the efforts of the Federal Government saying that it would go a long way to ameliorate their difficulties.

Other items given out were pasta, tin tomatoes and vegetable oil.
