NIMASA PROVIDES RELIEF MATERIALS TO 2018 FLOOD VICTIMS IN ANAMBRA STATE.

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has donated relief items worth millions of naira to victims of 2018 flood incidents in Anambra State.

Some of the items, which were delivered to the Anambra State Government through it’s State Emergency Management Agency, included cartons of Noddles, matrass, blankets, bags of rice, salt, sugar, children diapers, grinders and sowing machines.

The Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Dr. Dakuku Peter -side whose representative made the presentation in Awka the state capital, harped on the need for proper distribution of the items to the affected victims.

Over eighteen thousand persons are said to have been affected by flood in Anambra state during the 2018 flood incident that ravaged parts of the country.

The victims, who are mostly farmers lost every means of livelihood including agricultural produce and house hold effects.

This according to the Director General of NIMASA, Dr. Peterside, prompted the Federal Government agency to come to the rescue of some of the victims in 20 states across the federation with relief items.

Represented by the Director Internal Audit, Mr Victor Onuzuluike, the NIMASA boss said the agency had to seek for necessary approvals from relevant authorities before it could embark on such social responsibility, hence the late arrival of the gesture.

The NIMASA boss, who sympathised with the affected flood victims in Anambra State, noted that more of such intervention would be made available subsequently, especially in the area of agricultural seedlings.

He called on the Anambra State Government to ensure even distribution of the items to the victims in order to cushion the existing effects of the 2018 flood incident on them.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Anambra State Government, the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency, Chief Paul Odenigbo, thanked NIMASA for considering the plight of the affected victims.

Chief Odenigbo reiterated that the State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, was doing everything possible to ensure that the people were sensitised to the impending 2019 flood following predictions from relevant forecast agencies.

The Executive Secretary assured NIMASA that the items, though not enough when compared to the number of persons affected, would be properly distributed to reach the people they were meant for.
