NBC CAUTIONS AGAINST MEDIA PARTISANSHIP AHEAD OF 2019 GENERAL ELECTION

Media Organizations are advised to adhere strictly to the Code of the National BROADCASTING Commission NBC in the reportage of political activities or face sanction.

The Director General of the Commission Dr. Modibbo Kawu gave the advice at a two day training workshop on political Broadcasts organised for key players in the media industry in Enugu.

Speaking on the theme of the workshop, “Media Coverage of 2015 Elections, Challenges, Regulating Framework and the way forward for a more Democratic Society,” Dr. Modibbo Kawu frowned at some media organization that are showing partisanship, noting that it was not going to be business as usual.

One of the panel discussants and Director General of Voice of Nigeria, Mr. Osita Okechiukwu, while commending the impressive attendance of media professionals at the workshop, urged them to be careful about the political news they dished out as they remained the last gate keeper for the people.

Another discussant and former Director Broadcast Monitoring, Mrs. Bunmi Cole, bemoaned the rate of commercialization of news, which she said might affects some editorial judgment of the people.
