MOTORISTS IN OWERRI LAMENT EXTORTION BY SECURITY AGENTS ON ROADS AS POLICE ASSURE ADEQUATE SECURITY

The Police in Imo State say they have taken adequate measures to reduce crime to the barest during and after the Christmas festivities.

Commissioner of Police Imo State Command, Mr. Chris Ezike gave the assurance to the people while speaking to newsmen in Owerri.

He said the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, had deployed more than 300 Mobile Police men to the State to help in beefing security in Owerri, Okigwe and Orlu.

Mr. Ezike explained that monitoring team had been constituted to ensure that security operatives drafted to the roads did not abuse the right of individuals.

The Police Commissioner however appealed to motorists to cooperate with his men who were on operation “Stop and Search” as the measure was geared towards protecting lives and property of citizens.

Meanwhile, some residents of the state, especially motorists, who spoke with Radio Nigeria, lamented what they described as extortion and unnecessary road traffic arising from security agents manning the highways.
