MOTORISTS GROAN IN ABAKALIKI AS A LITRE OF PETROL HITS #500

REPORTER: SUNDAY NWAMBAM

Some motorists in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi state capital, have decried the sudden hike in pump price of Primium Motor Spirit (PMS) otherwise known as petrol.

Radio Nigeria observed that a litre of petrol is sold between #400.00 and #500.00 in three of the filling stations that opened for business in the early hours of Tuesday as most filling stations were under lock.

Meanwhile, roadside fuel dealers (popularly referred to as black marketers) sold petrol between #600 and #700 per litre.

Two motorists, Mr. Lawrence Nwite and James Ajah, described the situation as worrisome and called on government to urgently intervene in the interest of the innocent citizens.

A tricycle operator, Mr. Emeka Nnaji, and a commercial motorcycle operator, Mr. Festus Okeh, blamed the increase in pump price of petrol on the recent pronouncement of subsidy removal by President Ahmed Bola Tunubu.

A pump attendant in one of the fuel stations despensing the product in Abakaliki, Miss Chidimma Onwe, alleged there is scarcity of the product despite the prouncement of removal of fuel subsidy.

The situation affected vehicular movement in Abakaliki metropolis and environs on Tuesday as most private vehicle owners were scarcely on the road.

Commercial buses, motorcycles and tricycles, who were on the road, increased their fares by a hundred percent, depending on the distance.
