The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement said police operatives attached to the Ogbunike Division, responding to a distress call along St. Monica College Ogbunike Road in Oyi Local Government Area of the state, arrested the 22 year-old suspect and recovered one already damaged yellow Mitsubishi L300 bus with Anambra registration number UKP 729.

The statement pointed out that members of the neighbourhood had already supported the police by blocking the exit points within the area, intercepting the vehicle and apprehending two of the gang members while others escaped.

Mr. Ikenga said unfortunately, angry mob had set ablaze one of the suspects before the arrival of the police operatives.

It said the operatives rescued the abducted victim and the second suspect as well as recovered the vehicle.

The statement noted that the Command, while reiterating the campaign against mob action by some members of the public, commended the efforts and courage of community members in the apprehension of the suspects.

The statement added that the rescued victim had been taken to a hospital and was currently receiving medical treatment while the second suspect was in custody and helping the police with useful information on the ongoing operation to arrest other fleeing gang members.
