MIX REACTION GREETS ASUU WARNING STRIKE IN FUTO
Mixed reactions have trailed the two weeks warning strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) chapter of the Federal University of Technology Owerri Imo State.
While some of the students perceived the strike as a disruption of academic calendar others saw it as a well deserved break to attend to some other pressing issues.
Those of them, who expressed worried by the industrial action, appealed to the Federal Government to take urgent steps towards a peaceful resolution of the crisis.
The Chairperson of ASUU in FUTO, Dr. Christopher Echereobia, appealed to the government to consider the demands of lecturers, which included poor funding of tertiary Institutions and a recommendation of the union, which should serve as a better alternative to the contentious Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS).
Dr. Echereobia said the chapter had set up a committee to ensure full compliance to the strike in the university.
