IMO STATE GOVT. THROWS WEIGHT BEHIND FIGHT AGAINST BREAST CANCER

Imo State Government has promised to partner the Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria, BRECAN to fight against breast cancer disease.

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State made this known when the newly elected executive of the association led by the wife of the Ondo State Governor, Mrs. Betty Akeredolu, visited him at the Government House Owerri.

Governor Okorocha urged the team to create more awareness by visiting markets, churches and homes for the women to know the dangers of the disease.

He noted that ignorance was the major reason women failed to go for check up.

Earlier, the leader of the team and wife of the Governor of Ondo State, Mrs. Betty Akeredolu, emphasized that February, 4 of every year is marked World Cancer Day and that the theme for this year is “We Can, I Can.”

She said that the awareness was to create opportunity for the Imo women to rise up and fight the deadly disease, which was neither a death sentence nor a spiritual attack.

She called on the Nigerian women to visit a nearest hospital if there were unusual changes in their breast for proper testing and treatment.

She solicited financial support to enable them carryout their programs effectively.
