CONSTRUCTION OF RURAL ROADS COMMENCE IN ENUGU STATE
The construction and rehabilitation of 115.36 kilometer of rural roads in Enugu State has commenced.
The project, which is aimed at developing the rural communities, is under the funding of the World Bank, International Development Association (IOA) and the French Development Agency (AFD) in collaboration with the Federal and Enugu State Governments.
At the launch of the event, the Acting State Project Coordinator, Rural Access and Mobility project, (RAMP-2), Mr. Chinedu Ugwu, enumerated the roads billed for construction across various communities in Enugu state.
Also, speaking the National Project Coordinator, (RAMP), Mr. Ubandoma Ularamu, said that the projects were designed to improve on the socio-economic activities of rural communities in Enugu State.
The Enugu State Governor represented by his deputy, Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, applauded the World Bank and its counterparts for their initiatives and promised security of the construction equipment in the areas
The Chairman Isi Uzo Local Government Area, Dr. Benjamin Edoga, commended the State government for its magnanimity
The Enugu State Government with its commitment to the progress of the project had earlier released the sum of N75 million as a part payment of the 2017 counterpart funds.
Still on RAMP, Rural dwellers have been advised to support government’s developmental projects in their areas to enhance productivity.
Enugu State Governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Elder G.O.C. Ajah, gave the advice during the commencement of construction and rehabilitation of Ukpabi-Nimbo-Ugbene Ajima-Eziani 26.275km road in Enugu.
Elder Ajah promised full government’s support and commitment in the execution of the projects.
Earlier, the Enugu State Rural Access and mobility project, RAMP-2, Mr. Chinedu Ugwu urged the benefiting communities to take full ownership of the project and ensure the security of the project equipment and contractors.
The representatives of World Bank and the French Development Agency, AFD, Mr. Jean Laurenth assured the people of Uzo Uwani of more rural development projects in the area after the road construction and rehabilitation.
The Chairman Uzo Uwani Local Government Area, Mr. Fidelis Ani, said the project would bring many good things including employment to their community.
Some members of the community expressed joy.
