IMO COVID-19 TASK-FORCE RAISES ALARM OVER INFLUX OF PEOPLE INTO THE STATE

The Taskforce on COVID-19 in Imo State has raised an alarm over what it described as influx of persons into the area since the partial relaxation of lockdown order by some states of the federation.

A member of the Committee, Dr. Success Prosper, expressed the concern during a meeting with leaders of Imo State market associations in Owerri.

He said the committee would intensify surveillance within the state’s borders to ensure that only vehicles carrying essential goods were allowed entry into the state.

Dr. Prosper explained that the essence of the meeting was to further sensitize traders to measures to adopt to check the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.

He advised traders to wash their hands with soap or use sanitizers each time they touched money, noting that the virus could be transmitted through cash receipt.

The President, Imo State Marketers Association, Mr. Jonathan Odikanwa, said his members in food markets made the use of face masks mandatory while buckets and detergents were positioned strategically to encourage regular hand washing.

Our Correspondent gathered that many residents of the state had expressed worry over non adherence to physical distancing, especially among commercial vehicles drivers.
