GOVERNOR OBIANO RENEWS CALL FOR ESTABLISHMENT OF CHINESE CONSULAR OFFICE IN ANAMBRA STATE

The Anambra State Government has renewed its call on China to establish a Consular Office in the area.

It has also offered land to the Chinese Government for the construction of a Cultural Centre and Arts Theatre.

Governor Willie Obiano made this known at Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, when he received a delegation from the Chinese Consulate led by its Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Zou Pingjian.

Governor Willie Obiano who expressed happiness with the visit by Chinese delegation, noted that the state government had in the past gone into partnerships with firms from China to enhance the transformation of the area.

Governor Obiano said he was optimistic that the Anambra City Airport project would on completion attract more investors from China.

The Governor stressed that land had been earmarked for the proposed Anambra- Chinese Cultural Centre, which he noted would tap the tourism potentials that abound in the state.

Governor Obiano said due to the increasing number of citizens travelling to China for businesses, there was the need to site a Chinese Consular Office near to them.

The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Pingjian, affirmed that he was in Anambra State to explore investment opportunities in line with the vision of the state government.

Dr. Pingjian noted that the Chinese Government had created a robust environment, which improved the ease of doing business, attracting over 178 billion dollars Foreign Direct Investment to the country.

In a remark, the State Commissioner for Culture, Tourism and Diaspora Affairs, Mrs. Sally Mbanefo noted that the visit was to cement the existing relationship between China and Anambra State.

Mrs. Mbanefo announced that some youths from the state would be trained in China on the invitation of the Chinese government.
