Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has raised alarm over alleged plot by some top politicians of the state origin to destabilize the state in the name of fighting him.

He stated this at the end of an emergency security meeting at Government House Abakaliki.

In attendance at the meeting were security chiefs from the Army, Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Immigration Service, National Correctional Service and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

Briefing journalists at the end of the meeting conducted behind close door, Governor Umahi explained that he got privileged information that some top public office holders based in Abuja were allegedly recruiting cultists and some none state actors to unleash mayhem in the state.

“I’m not saying that that this information is true or not. When I’m told about such information, I need to raise an alarm and I’m praying to God that it should not be true. I have asked the security agencies to reach out to them,” Governor Umahi alleged.

He called on security agencies to be on the alert and reach out to those allegedly hatching the plot with assurances that their political party would be allowed to exist peacefully in the state while no body would harass them.

According to Governor Umahi; “I want the press to report that I have reported an allegation of some Ebonyi people that are engaging cultists and according to them, some IPOB members in the name of fighting government.

“The people are, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, Dr. Sam Egwu, Senator Obinna Ogba, Ali Odefa and others.

“This is the information I got and I want to share it with security agencies. The reason is that every government in this state has been fought by the same set of people. It is interesting to note that the same Anyim Pius Anyim fought Dr. Sam Egwu and unfortunately people were killed.”

Governor Umahi also urged security agencies to implement the ban on the use of siren and tinted glasses emphasising that many people who use police escorts were not entitled to them as they had always deployed such escorts to harass innocent people.

He said he would not coerce anyone to join his political party, emphasising that those in the other divide would be allowed to pursue their legitimate political activities without harassment.

“God forbid that the information is not true. Let it be known that I got this information and shared it with security agents. I have directed security agents to reach them to assure them that nobody will harrass them or stop their activities in the state,” the Governor stated.

Chief Umahi also used the opportunity to present staff of office to three traditional rulers.
