FULFILL YOUR PROMISE TO HONOUR SAM OKWARAJI — HENRY NWOSU BEGS FG

Former Super Eagles skipper, Henry Nwosu, has appealed to the federal government to fulfill its promise of immortalizing late Sam Okwaraji, who slumped and died in 1989 while playing for Nigeria.

The Ex Eagles captain made the call when he led some former super eagles players and officials of Sam Okwaraji Foundation on a courtesy visit to the Chairman Imo State Sports Commission, Mr. Fan Ndubuoke in Owerri.

He expressed regret that thirty years after the unfortunate death of the player government was yet to recognize his sacrifice.

Mr. Nwosu called on spirited Nigerians to support efforts to immortalize the former Super Eagles player, noting that ex-players in the country would collaborate with Sam Okwaraji Foundation on the current efforts to honour the footballer.

The Chairman Imo State Sports Commission, Mr. Fan Ndubuoke, described late Okwaraji as a patriotic Nigerian and pledged the support of the state government in the move to honour the football legend.

He explained that Governor Emeka Ihedioha had shown passion for sports, pointing out that honouring late Okwaraji would further trigger patriotic zeal among the youths.

The elder brother of the deceased, Mr. Patrick Okwaraji, said a documentary on Sam Okwaraji and lecture series were being put together to honour his brother.

Sam Okwaraji died on August 12, 1989 in Lagos during a world cup qualifying match between Nigeria and Angola at the age of twenty five.
