FLOOD CONTROL Enugu SEMA Warns Against Refuse Disposal and Building on Water Ways

The Executive Secretary, Enugu State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Mrs. Nkechi Eneh has warned against refuse disposal and building on water ways in the State.

Mrs. Eneh gave the warning during a sensitisation workshop organized for residents and people of Enugu South Local Government Area.

She said that there was high population density in the area and that people needed to be cautious during the rains; pointing out that the terrain had been predicted by Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency, NIHSA, and Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NIMET to experience downpour, which might result to flooding.

The Enugu South Local Government Council Chairman, Mr. Sunday Ugwu who was elated with the knowledge gained, assured the people of taking adequate measures to forestall incidents that might result in loss of life.

Some residents including Chief Ibe Nnamani, Mr. Chukwuma Ibik and Mrs. Adaobi Ozogiofor said that the programme had provided them with the knowledge needed to educate others.

They pointed out the need for the government to enforce strict restriction on erecting structures on waterways.

The event which featured a question and answer session was organized in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA.
