FINALLY OTTI WINS ABIA GUBER POLL

REPORTER: JOHN MADUAGWU

Dr. Alex Otti of the Labour Party (LP) has been declared the winner of the 2023 Governorship election in Abia State.

The State Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Professor Nnenna Oti, announced this after the collation of the results of the election conducted.

Dr. Otti polled a total of 175, 467 to win the election while his closest rival and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Okey Ahaiwe, polled a total of 88,529 votes while Mr. Enyinnaya Chima Nwafor of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) came third with 28,972 votes.

Dr. Otti was declared winner of the governorship poll after the conclusion of the review the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), carried out on the results from Obingwa Local Government Area on Tuesday after collation from the area was suspended on Monday.

In a reaction, the State Collation Agent of the Labour Party, Mr. Iheanacho Obioma, thanked Abia people for giving his party the mandate to lead them for the next four years, and assured them that the Governor-elect would work hard to justify their votes.

In an interview, the State Collation Agent of the African Democratic Congress, Mr. Nkem Ukandu, said his party had accepted the outcome of the election as the will of Abia people just as their candidate had congratulated Dr. Otti on his victory.

The Agent of the All Progressives Congress, Prince Anthony Eze, rejected the outcome, alleging widespread irregularities, stating that his party was taking it seriously.

This is the third attempt of Dr. Alex Otti to clinch the Governorship seat in Abia State as he had earlier contested in 2015 and 2019 under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
