FG INAUGURATES 2.2KM ROAD AT UNN

The Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, has inaugurated about two point two kilometers road at the University of Nigeria Nsukka. 

In a statement at the handover ceremony of completed internal roads within the Campus, the Minister indicated that the ministry had embarked on intervention on internal road projects in about forty-three FederalTertiary Institutions in the country to address their infrastructure defict.

The Minister, who was represented by the Federal Controller of Works in Enugu State, Mr. Femi Oyekenmi, said the rehabilitation and asphalting overlay of the two-point-two kilometers road was in a bid to impact on the quality of infrastructure and the academic environment. 

He revealed that other institutions benefiting from the two kilometers internal road intervention included the Federal School of Dental, and University of Nigeria Teaching Hospita, Ituku Ozallal both in Enugu State.

Commending the Federal Government for the intervention on roads, the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration Professor Pat Okpoko, who represented the Vice Chancellor of University of Nigeria, Nsukka, said that the historical intervention first witnessed in the great citadel of learning was phenomenal. 

He pledged the university’s determination to ensure maintenance of the road and appealed for more Government’s interventions owing to the lean resources accessible by the institution for capital projects. 

The President, Student Union Government of the university, Comrade Fortunatus Chimezie said the project would improve the status of the institution. 

The roads were Ikejiani Road, one thousand and forty meters, four hundred meters Ugwuegede Road, and Engineering to Odim Gate Road spanning five hundred and eighty meters.
