FG IMPLORED TO IMPROVE THE WELFARE OF WORKERS IN ITS MEDIA ORGANIZATIONS

The Radio, Television and Theatre Arts Workers Union, RATTAWU has restated its call on the Federal Government to improve the welfare of workers in its media organizations.

The National Vice President, South East of the Union, Comrade EmekaKalu made the call when he led members of the Union on a courtesy visit to the Management of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Enugu National Station.

Comrade Kalu who was in Enugu to address some union matters said the peculiarity of the media profession called for the implementation of a special salary structure for the workers.

Comrade Kalu used the occasion to commend FRCN for its unbiased reportage of events, noting that unions were not formed to attack management of organizations but to ensure that workers’ welfare was promoted.

Responding, the Zonal Director of the station, Mr Ike Okere expressed the position of the Management in ensuring that union activities thrived in the station.

On workers’ welfare, MrOkere noted that good working condition enhanced productivity.

In their separate speeches, the Deputy Director News, FRCN Enugu, Mr Stone Agomuoh re-emphasized the need for the protection of interest of media workers while the South East National Vice President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Mr Chris Isiguzo condemned the attitude of media owners who owe their staff salaries for months or even years.

A copy of RATTAWU Constitution was also presented to the Zonal Director on the occasion.
