FG COMMITTED TO INCREASING QUALITY OF AGRICULTURAL COMMODITIES
The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Mohammed Umar has restated Federal Government’s commitment to promote agricultural processing capacity through the establishment of several cottage industries for the production of staple food in the country.
Dr. Umar made this known at the opening of the technical session of the Forty-third meeting of the National Council on Agriculture and Rural Development in Umuahia, Abia State
He noted that the Ministry was committed to the provision of incentives to increase the output and quality of agricultural commodities to meet national requirements.
In a remark, the Commissioner for Agriculture inAbia State, Mr. Chinedu Elechi stated that the forum would provide participants the opportunity to brainstorm on ways to improve the agricultural sub-sector.
He noted that the State Government was collaborating with the Federal Government in all national agricultural programmes such as the FADAMA Three project and CBN Fund Anchor Borrower Scheme for commodities in which the State had comparative advantages.
The theme of the forum is ‘Consolidating the Strategies of the Agricultural Promotion Policy for economic Diversification and Growth‘.
