EXECUTIVE ARM OF GOVT URGED TO SLASH REMUNERATIONS OF POLITICAL OFFICE HOLDERS

The President and State Governors have been urged to make political appointments and elective positions less enterprising by slashing the salaries and allowances of political office holders in the country.

The Chairman Christian Association of Nigeria in Ebonyi State, Reverend Father Abraham Nwali made the call in a presentation at the Ebonyi State 2019 Democracy Day Lecture held at the International Conference Centre, Abakaliki.

Speaking on the theme, “Alternative Opportunities to Political Appointments and Elective Positions”, Reverend Father Nwali attributed the bane of desperation in Nigerian political landscape to self-enrichment and interest other than the zeal to serve the nation.

Another Guest Lecturer, Dr. Mark Abani urged public office holders to divest their interest from partisan politics by engaging in farming, mining industry and private entrepreneurship.

The Deputy Governor of the State, Dr Kelechi Igwe noted that the lecture had served as an eye opener as politicians had been equipped with viable options to eke out a living without politics.

The State Chief Judge, Justice Aloy Nwankwo was among dignitaries who attended the event.
