ENUGU STATE POLICE COMMAND DEBUNKS THE ALLEGATION OF INDISCRIMINATE ARREST OVER THE KILLING OF IGWE STEPHEN NWATU

The Enugu State Police Command has debunked the allegation of indiscriminate arrest of people over the killing of Igwe Stephen Nwatu of Ogbozinne Akpugo in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The Commissioner of police in the State, Mr. Mohammed Danmallam stated this in a press conference in an update on the investigation into the Ogbozinne Monarch killing.

Mr. Danmallam stated that a Methodist Priest, Reverend Kenneth Okafor had been arrested following his alleged involvement in the killing while other suspects are still at large.

The Commissioner of Police condemned insinuations that the police were arresting and harassing innocent people in Ogbozinne community.

According to the Commissioner, two out of five persons alleged to have sponsored the killing have been arrested and are assisting the police in the investigation.

The Commissioner who appealed to the general public to assist the security agencies with information to enable them to track down others involved in the act noted that prosecution of those arrested in connection with the killing was on-going.

Our Correspondent reports that women of the community had earlier this week protested against what they described as indiscriminate arrest of innocent people in the area over the killing of their traditional ruler.
