ENUGU STATE GOVT. DIRECTS PROMPT PAYMENT OF RELEVANT TAXES TO FIRS BY MDAs; APPROVES 50% DISCOUNT ON LAND CHARGES AND ESTABLISHMENT OF CEMETERIES

The Enugu State Governor, Chief IfeanyiUgwuanyi has directed Ministries, Agencies and Departments (MDAs) to ensure prompt payment of their withholding taxes, VATs, and other relevant taxes to the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS.

Governor Ugwuanyi gave the directive during the executive council meeting held at the government house.

According to the state commissioner for Capital Territory Development Authority, Mr. ChidiAroh, the directive was to ensure the state government was up to date in its tax payment.

The Commissioner pointed out that “the total exposure of the State Government to the Federal Inland Revenue Services is ₦547,680,877.11 (five hundred and forty-seven million, six hundred and eighty thousand, eight hundred seventy-seven naira, eleven kobo.

“These are efforts to reach a mutual agreement, which the state will liquidate in 18 months.”

Mr.Aroh further stated that the council approved a 50% discount on all accrued land charges for property owners in the state and admonished the debtors to offset their bills on or before the December 31, 2018.

He also said that the council approved the establishment of public and private cemeteries in the state to address the indiscriminate burying of corpses in the state.

“Exco directed the honourable commissioner for Lands and Urban Development to ensure that land is provided for the establishment of both private and public cemeteries in the state.

“This is to ensure that we deal with the honour and respect the dead and also to deal with the health hazards that could arise from indiscriminate burial of dead bodies,” Mr. Aro said.

The Executive council also commended Master Anthony Okeke of Spring of Life School for clinching the position of the best science student in Nigeria at the just concluded NNPC National Science Competition for secondary schools.
