ENUGU STATE GOVERNMENT DETHRONES A TRADITIONAL RULER

The traditional ruler of Ama-etiti Achi Community in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State, Igwe Edmund Onyefuru, has been stripped off his title.

The action followed a recommendation submitted to the state executive council by the administrative panel of enquiry set up by the council to investigate the alleged gross misconduct and molestation of the people of Ama-etiti Achi Community.

The Commissioner for Information, Mr. Ogbuagu Anikwe, stated this while briefing journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting held at the Government House, Enugu.

Mr. Ogbuagu said that the panel submitted its report on April 27, 2018 after the monarch’s suspension on April 17, 2018.

The Information Commissioner noted that it was clearly established that Igwe Onyefuru’s actions were in gross violation of the Ama-etiti Achi constitution and the code of conduct for traditional rulers, including encroaching on his people’s businesses and means of livelihood; confiscation of their landed property and conversion of same for his personal use.

Also on the outcome of the meeting, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Fintan Ekochin, said that the governor during the council’s meeting accented to the Enugu State Health Sector Reform Law.

Dr. Ekochin said that the law would bring positive change to the health sector by giving the state government authority to oversee health care from a hospital management board.

The Commissioner for Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA), Mr. Chidi Aroh, added that the state government would constitute a committee to create an interface with relevant agencies in the aviation industry to resolve the issues associated with infrastructural development around Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Emene, Enugu.
