ENUGU STATE GOVERNMENT BEGINS DEMOLITION OF ILLEGAL STRUCTURES
Operators of illegal motor parks and owners of unapproved structures in Enugu metropolis have been directed to vacate the area.
Enugu State Governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi gave the directive during an inspection tour to Market road through Aria Market round about in the Coal City.
He explained that the illegal motor parks and structures were defacing the city pointing out that they would be revoked and made to fit into the original plan of the state.
Governor Ugwuanyi who said that the drive was in a bid to enthrone a clean environment and ensure security in the state, authorized the Nigerian Police, Enugu State Command, the Enugu State Capital Territory Development Authority, ESCTDA, the ministries of Works and Infrastructure, Transport and Environment to embark on immediate demolition and arrest of defaulters.
During the tour, Enugu State Capital Territory Development Authority (ESCTDA) sealed off some illegal motor parks.
Also, Governor Ugwuanyi visited the Enugu State Transport Company (ENTRACO) Park at Onitsha Road, Enugu where he also told operators of the park and shop owners there to prepare to vacate the area as another place had been mapped out for the park, though there was no time frame given for their relocation.
Meanwhile barely 24 hours after the Governor’s warning tour, the ESCTDA has commenced demolition of some illegal structures and shops at the Holy Ghost Cathedral and Main Market axis of Enugu metropolis.
Radio Nigeria also observed that with the development, many commercial vehicles and road side traders that often caused obstruction on the road had either moved into their parks or left the roads, thereby ensuring free vehicular flow on the once dreaded road because of gridlock.
