ENUGU HOSTS ITS FIRST POETRY SLAM

The Enugu Literary Society has organized its first Enugu Poetry Slam.

The group is an umbrella body of lovers of literary works and exists to bring literary works closer to the people.

During the maiden edition of the workshop, one of the resource persons and poet, Mr. Dike Chukwumerije, sensitized participants to the tips needed in writing good poetry.

Mr. Chukwumerije encouraged upcoming poets to see the sky as the starting point to realizing their dreams.

Another guest the Resident Poet, Port Harcourt Literary Society, Mr. Anu Nnadi commended the organizers of the workshop, noting that it was uncommon to see platforms where up-coming poets could showcase their talents.

Also, the Zonal Director Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN Enugu National Station, Mr. Ike Okere, said the literary society helped to encourage literary culture and build interest in works of arts.

Mr. Okere congratulated all those who participated in the poetry slam, especially those from Enugu who contested for the first time.

There was competition on poem recitation and performance after which three people emerged victorious.

A cash donation ranging from ₦20,000 to ₦120,000 was given to the winners.

The event organized by the Society in conjunction with Coal City FM drew participants from all walks of life as well as some secondary school students from Enugu State.
