ENUGU DEPUTY GOVERNOR TEES-OFF AT LADIES GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP

The Enugu State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, has charged female golfers to be immensely competitive as their male counterpart as the game requires focus, dedication and constant practice.

The deputy governor was speaking while declaring open, the 6th Emenite/Enugu Ladies Golf Championship and ceremonial tee-off held at the golf section of Enugu Sports Club.

Outlining the benefits of playing golf, Mrs. Ezeilo said it “increases lifespan, and has the capacity to prevent chronic diseases such as heart attacks, stroke, diabetes, breast cancer,” among others, noting that golfers live five years longer than non-golfers.

The deputy governor explained that given the role of women as “home keepers and managers of destiny” and the fact that golf entails sufficient discipline, it would be appropriate and exciting for them to participate actively and be worthy role models in the game.

According to her, the two-day tournament would increase the participation of women and girls in golf through targeted programmes and promotions, and a coordinated approach consistent with the yearnings of the organizers and the participants alike.

The president, Lady Golfers Association of Nigeria, Mrs. Zulu Omo- Ikerodah, said the two-day golf tournament in the state has been an exciting experience which amply demonstrates that female golf in Nigeria has a great potential.
