Enugu State Governor Urges Workers to Embrace Cooperative Societies

gburusThe Enugu State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has charged workers of the state to embrace cooperative societies in order to boost their socio-economic state and promote entrepreneurship.

Governor Ugwuanyi, represented by his deputy Chief Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, was speaking at the Tenth Anniversary and 2014/2015 Annual General Meeting of the Workers’ Cooperative, Thrift and Loan Society Limited held at the State Secretariat, Enugu.

He commended the society for its planned acquisition of 100 plots of land for development purposes which, he noted, was in line with his administration’s commitment to provide land and housing to public servants in the state.

Earlier, the State Commissioner for Poverty Reduction and Human Development, Mr. Obinna Mbeke, said the benefits of belonging to cooperative societies were immense and advised workers yet to sign on to the initiative to have a rethink.

In his goodwill message, the Head of Service, Barrister Chidi Ezema, applauded the society for successfully keeping the company together for the past 10 years, noting that the gesture deserves commendation and is worthy of emulation.

The president of the society, Mrs. Veronica Ogbu, explained that the society has fulfilled its mission to give succour to its members creditably.
