EHA-AMUFU KILLINGS – POLICE ARREST 1, CONTINUE MANHUNT OF PRIME SUSPECT

Manhunt for a young man who allegedly shot and killed 3 persons last week at Eha-Amufu, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State has continued.

The Police confirmed that the second suspect had been arrested following the combined efforts of security personnel, members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group and some of the villagers.

Investigations revealed that the prime suspect now at large went into a bush with the second suspect, now in Police custody, started terrorizing members of the community with a gun.

The Suspects also shot a young girl they met on a road on her buttocks.

The girl is currently receiving treatment in a private hospital in Eha-Amufu.

When Radio Nigeria visited the hospital, the doctor in-charge, Anthony Anigbogu, said she was responding to treatment.

On where and how the suspects obtained the gun, Mr. Michael Ogenyi from Ihenyi, Eha-Amufu where two of the victims hailed from, said it could be from the house of a late Soldier from the area.

Although there was apprehension in the minds of the people, normalcy seemed to have returned as people were seen going about their normal duties.

This situation was also confirmed by some students of the Federal College of Education, Eha-Amufu.

Reacting to rumours of communal clash and or possible invasion of the area by extended forces, the Council Chairman, Dr. Benjamin Edeoga said it was far from the truth.

Dr. Edeoga noted that the council would do all within its power to ensure the prime suspect was caught and stopped from possibly raising other miscreants.

According to the Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ebere Amarizu, the Command is making frantic efforts to ensure that the fleeing suspect is apprehended.

Mr. Amarizu explained that the arrest of the prime suspect would enable the Police to ascertain the motive behind the killing by the suspects identified as ex-convicts.
