EBONYI INCREASES ALLOWANCES OF YOUTH CORPS MEMBERS BY 100%

Ebonyi State government has increased monthly allowance of National Youth Service Corps members deployed to the state from five to ten thousand Naira.

This was contained in a message of Governor David Umahi to the swearing in ceremony of 2018 Batch C, Stream 1 Corps members at the Permanent Orientation Camp, Old Macgregor College in Afikpo North Local Government Area of the state.

The Governor was represented by the State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Mr Charles Akpuenika, who explained that the review of the allowance was to encourage the corps members to contribute meaningfully to the development of the state.

He assured them that the Umahi led administration would continue to prioritize their welfare, pointing out that it informed the decision of the government to embark on massive renovation of the camp facilities.

“NYSC scheme has achieved slot in uniting Nigerians and my administration will continue to support efforts made by the scheme to develop the youths of the country,” he remarked.

The NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Ann Ibe, urged the corps members to quickly adapt to camp life as they would be exposed to skill acquisition, entrepreneurship development programmes to make them self-reliant.

“I therefore urge them to be open to meaningful and healthy relationships that will enhance the affinity to one another and promote the much needed unity and integration of the country,” the State Coordinator advised.

Some of the Corps members, including Miss Oluomachi Njoku and Mr. Oluwatosin Akinegbo, said they were happy to be called up for a service to their fatherland.

2,000 (two thousand) Corps members took oath of allegiance administered to them by a High Court Judge, Justice Benson Ogbu who represented the Chief Judge of the state.
