DRUG ABUSE IS A MAJOR CAUSE OF CRIMES —NDLEA ANAMBRA COMMANDER

REPORTER: KEVIN EKEDIEGWU

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Anambra State has expressed dissatisfaction with the sizeable number of clandestine laboratories that manufacture Methamphetamine in the state.

The Commander of the agency in the state, Mr. Daniel Onyishi, made the expression during a sensitization to the dangers of illicit drugs organize for youths in the state.

He noted that the availability and consumption of these illicit drugs had been threatening the socio-economic and political stability of the state.

The Commander explained that the incidences of armed robbery, kidnapping, arson, killings among other crimes, were the immediate consequences of drug abuse in the society.

He said it was the vision of the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Agency, Brigadier-General Buba Marwa (retd) that the agency could not win the war against drug abuse alone, hence the adoption of what he called a “Whole Society Approach.”

Mr. Onyishi, however, described methamphetamine as one of the most potent stimulant in the world, which affected the health of an individual as well as the environment.

He called on the youth across the 21 local government areas of the state to ensure a drug free state.

Two youths, Mr. Emeka Eze and Jude Okonkwo, expressed happiness for being part of the event.
