DO NOT REJECT YOUTH CORPS MEMBERS, UMAHI, IKPEAZU WARN EMPLOYERS AS NYSC LAMENTS POWER OUTAGE IN AWGU ORIENTATION CAMP

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State says his administration will no longer tolerate rejection of National Youth Service Corps members by employers of labour in the State.

Speaking at the closing of orientation course for 2018 Batch C, Stream two Corps members at Permanent Orientation Camp Old Macgregor College Afikpo, Chief Umahi directed employers to engage the corps members meaningfully in the interest of the state.

Also, corps members have been enjoined to ensure that they impact positively on the lives of the people in their host communities.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State made this known in a message to the closing of the 2018 Batch C stream 2 Orientation course for corps members deployed to the state at the permanent orientation camp in Umunna Bende Local Government Area.

The Governor who was represented by the commissioner for Youth Development, Comrade Ike Anyatonwu, noted that his administration would continue to give the necessary support, care and enabling environment needed for corps members to serve effectively in their host communities.

He urged employers not to reject corps members posted to their establishments rather accommodate them to enable them contribute in their services to the growth of state and the country at large.

In an address of welcome, the Coordinator of NYSC in Abia State, Mrs. Francesca Ifon, urged the corps members to accept their postings in good faith as thy were done in line with the laid down rules and policies of the scheme.

Radio Nigeria gathered that 1,621 corps members participated in the ceremony.

Meanwhile, the Enugu State Coordinator National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), Chief Ahmed Wada Ikaka, says lack of electricity in the orientation camp is affecting activities in the premises.

Chief Ikaka, who stated this during the closing  of the 2018 batch C stream 2 Orientation, expressed worry over the inability of the state government to install the necessary facilities in the camp.

He urged the Enugu State Rural Electrification Board to show meaningful commitments in reconnecting the camp to the National Grid.

Responding, the Governor represented by his Special Assistant on Youth Affairs, Mr. Ogechukwu Nnamene, appealed to the corps members to make good use of the opportunity to serve in the state by rendering quality services to their host communities.

He promised to prevail on the electricity board to fast-track the restoration of power to the camp.

Some Corps members interviewed by Radio Nigeria expressed satisfaction with the process.

The exercise attracted representatives of the military and other para-military agencies.
