DEMOLITION OF ILLEGAL BUILDING ORDERED BY GOV. UGWUANYI- ECTDA COMMISSIONER

The Enugu State Government has demolished some illegal kiosks and sealed off a four story building at Independence Layout Enugu for poor architectural standard.

The kiosks were at Alvan koku Street, where some petty traders sold fruits, food sellers also had their business in the location, while the building which was sealed off at Ogbaru Crescent was occupied by students and had over 35 rooms.

According to the Enugu State Commissioner for Capital Territory Development Authority, Mr. Chidi Aroh, the exercise followed a directive by the State Governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, who observed that the structures defaced the administration’s urban renewal drive.

He explained that the four story building was without rail, which made it a risk to the lives of the occupants.

Mr. Aroh gave the occupants 72 hours to vacate the building, and for the owner to take measures to safe guard the lives of the tenants, else he would be prosecuted.

Miss Chinaza Nwodo and Mr. Lucky Ogbodo who were tenants, claimed that the owner of the building had assured them that he would install the rails after they have paid rents.

The demolition team also visited the Daughters of Divine Love Congregation Headquarters at Ikegbunna Street, Akpakpa Nike where an illegal shopping complex was being erected in space belonging to the congregation by an individual who claimed ownership of the land.
