COVID-19: GOV UMAHI STOPS MORTUARY FROM RELEASING CORPSES FOR BURIAL

The Ebonyi State Governor, Chief David Umahi, has directed the Management of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital Abakaliki  to henceforth stop releasing corpses for burial as such ceremonies compromise the fight against spread of Coronavirus.

Briefing journalists on the efforts of the government to curtail the spread of the virus, Chief Umahi explained that the directive was in response to the flouting of ban on burial ceremonies in Ikwo and Ezza South Local Government Areas.

The Governor stressed that such violations would not be tolerated while the Commissioner of Police in the State had been directed to arrest those who violated the ban on burial. He emphasized that  policemen, who allegedly supervised the burial ceremonies should also be arrested.

The Governor called on the state Permanent Secretary, State Affairs, Mr. Austin Udude; and the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Daniel Umezuruike; to identify two hotels within the capital city, which would serve as operational base for medical workers in the fight against the virus. On the lock down of the State, which commences on Saturday March 28, 2020, the Governor charged Chairmen of all the local government areas and security operatives to ensure strict compliance.
